222 - Life Preserver & Armour of Inequity

Artifact: Life Preserver

Power: Significant.

Description: A large inflatable tube, painted red and tied with white rope. The words “Property of Lincoln, Nebraska” are stencilled around one side.

Effect: It doesn’t float. Apart from not being buoyant it’s heavy and bulky, sinking quickly in water. Take a -30% shift to rolls to stay afloat and move around while wearing it, at the GMs discretion this may apply to or preclude other actions due to weight or bulk.

Anyone wearing the life preserver who fails a stress check does not fall prey to a panic, paralysis or frenzy reaction. The failed notch is marked as normal, but they are otherwise protected. Developing disorders from maxing out a gauge and activating existing disorders is unaffected. If the tube is punctured it loses this property until repaired and reinflated.

Artifact: Armour of Inequity

Power: Significant.

Description: A men’s size large type II bulletproof vest. It’s crusty and old, probably well past its expiration date.

Effect: As body armour it’s still perfectly serviceable. Convert firearms damage to hand-to-hand while wearing it unless someone specifically avoids shooting you in the chest or rolls a matched success or crit.

The downside is that any action taken while wearing the vest is always perceived in the worst possible light, by everyone. Your movements appear furtive or aggressive, you’re clearly doing the wrong or at the very least not doing the right thing. This perception endures after you remove the vest but only for actions taken while wearing it. Whether this colours other perceptions of you comes down to individual circumstances.
