Artifact: Healer’s Burden
Power: Minor.
Description: A box of small, disc-shaped pills, chalky and metallic tasting like aspirin. The packaging is worryingly unadorned except for a small symbol of two arrows looping around each other, this bootleg aesthetic counterpointed by the blister pack sealing each paired dosage. There are two dozen in each box, 12 white and 12 green.
Effect: Suffering from headache, a broken leg or other painful ailment? Invented by a masochistic Healer avatar, this artifact promises 100% pain-free efficacy. It’s not addictive (chemically, anyhow), there’s no onset time and no side-effects (the pills themselves are actually only made out of chalk, food dye and magick). Someone else just has to take it on for you.
Each pill is paired with one of the opposite colour, anyone taking the green pill will suffer physical pain that would be endured by anyone taking its white counterpart for an hour. Any injuries or conditions still remain for that person, they’re just not suffering pain for them. Instead the sensations are channeled directly to the other party, any penalties that it would inflict are transferred to them and stack with any they might already have.
They provide an incidental +10% shift on treating anything better diagnosed by understanding exactly how it hurts. One inventive individual, being held prisoner, used the effect of this medication to communicate via morse code with a friend by bashing their foot against the jack in the car trunk they were chained up in.
